Prison officials declared Donald Beardslee dead at twelve twenty nine this morning. He spent his last hours with his spiritual adviser and his lawyer. Beardslee was sent to death row after being convicted of the 1981 killings of two women from the Bay Area. Prosecutors said the victims were murdered in connection with a drug deal. At the time Beardslee was on parole from an earlier murder conviction. Family representatives of one of the victims were among the witnesses to the execution but no members of Beardslee’s family attended. Outside the San Quentin compound, about 300 protesters stood vigil. The 61-year-old inmate’s fate was sealed yesterday when Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger denied clemency and the U.S. Supreme Court denied review of his last two appeals. Bob Hensley KXJZ News.
