Last year, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger referred to blowing up boxes to reform the way government worked… This year, the Governor will unveil proposals taken from the California Performance Review that examined departments and agencies. The Chairwoman of a new state Senate committee, charged with examining the Governor’s proposed reforms, is Democrat Liz Figueroa. She cautioned Schwarzenegger against what she called “phony reform”. Cut: LizF3 (:09) “Phony reform just moves problems around from one department to another bigger department.” Figueroa says hearings of the Senate’s Government Modernization, Efficiency and Accountability Committee will begin within a few weeks to review the Governor’s proposals as well as lawmakers suggestions. A spokeswoman for Schwarzenegger says input on reform is welcome but called the Senator’s comments partisan and unfortunate. SOC
