Merced Man Missing in Thailand
A Merced resident attending Stanford University is reported missing in Thailand. University officials say James Willis Hsu was vacationing in an area hit by a deadly tsunami over the weekend.

A graduate of U-C Berkeley, James Willis Hsu is currently a working on an M-B-A at Stanford. In a prepared statement, the university says Hsu was one of two-dozen students who were in Thailand on a work-study program. When the program ended recently Hsu and some of his friends headed for a vacation area on the coast. The island they were visiting was hit by a tsunami Sunday. Stanford says Hsu is the only one of the group unaccounted for. Hsu is a 1996 graduate of Golden Valley High School in Merced. Principal Ralf Swenson, remembers him fondly. SWENSON :11—James stood out as one of the most accomplished students and one of the finest young men. He was involved in our tennis program. You could tell that he was going to go somewhere and make something of himself in the world. Hsu's brother was killed in a car accident nine years ago. Stanford says Hsu’s parents, who live in Merced, did not want to comment publicly about their missing son. Bob Hensley KXJZ News.
