From clogged garbage disposals to heaters that break down, the holidays can bring a flurry of home repair emergencies. When you got a lot of people in your house, a lot of people over using your house, things happen. Jonathan Parsley with the California Contractors State License Board says if you need to hire a service or repair person, never hire anyone who isn’t licensed. An unlicensed person may have no experience. They’re unable to pull building permits for health and safety and if there’s a problem later on down the road how do you know if you can contact them to get them to come back. Tips for hiring contractors include verifying their licenses by visiting the state board’s web site, getting a written contract for any work performed, and never paying cash.
