Health Professions High School will be run by the Sacramento City Unified School District. The newly announced program received initial funding of about $500,000 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Eventually the program will receive attendance money from the school district. Students will receive a comprehensive education and applied learning at local health systems, which employ 28,000 in the Sacramento region … but are scrambling to hire additional qualified workers to keep up with the population explosion. The new school will open in temporary quarters … but it’s hoped that a large campus will be ready in 2006, to accommodate up to 500 students.
