Hospitals were asked to submit extensive information to the Leapfrog Group, a coalition of major employers that issues the quality index. It covers such practices as dose management for medicine and monitoring the risk of developing bed sores. The four highest hospitals on the new index are UC Davis Medical Center, Sutter Memorial, Sutter General, and Mercy General. Kaiser South Sacramento and Methodist Hospital came in at the bottom of the rankings. Employers in the LeapFrog Group look to shift business to the standout performers as a way of driving improvement.
