Sierra Pacific Industries says the visitor information center it is contemplating for the town of Camino would direct visitors to foothill wineries, fruit stands and other attractions. It would be similar in many ways to the Lodi Wine & Visitor Center, where visitors can taste wines and sign up for tours. The facility would occupy an old wood-planing building, already owned by Sierra Pacific, which is one of California’s biggest land owners. Nearby the company would build a hotel and conference center, if the plan moves forward. New housing and business space could also be included. If the signs are go, Sierra Pacific would probably submit an application to the county next year.
