The Segway Human Transporter was heralded as the new thing when introduced several years ago – it’s a two-wheeled self-balancing power scooter ideal for getting around on a college campus or a corporate complex. Now there’s a dealer in Sacramento – Carmichael Honda, owned by Norris Rancourt, who has two of them personally. Segway had been selling its battery-powered machine with limited success through Brookstone and Amazon.com. Rancourt hopes to move 30 or more Segways a month after a while. U.S. buyers tend to be men in their forties. Segways are popular in France, where train riders or pedestrians can rent them.
