Sacramento County elections officials are predicting a near record turnout at the local polls today. They’re also beefing up security.

Sacramento County Registrar of Voters spokesman Al Fawcett says they’re expecting the biggest turnout in about 20-years. We’re looking at 72 to 77 percent turnout. It won’t be our all time high but it’ll be the highest we’ve had since about 1984. The prediction is based on increased voter registration and high interest in absentee voting. Meantime, fears that terrorists might try to disrupt the election have prompted extra security. We’ve hired some deputy sheriffs to provide security here in our building. The national reports are telling us that there may be some terrorist threats on election day to disrupt the elections, nothing specific but we’ve been asked to be cautious and be alert and to review our security procedures and we’ve done that. The polls will be open until 8-o’clock tonight. Steve Milne - KXJZ news.
