Election 101: Who Can Register?

To vote legally in the state of California, you must meet certain minimal qualifications. Tony Miller, special counsel to Secretary of State Kevin Shelley, says the requirements are set forth in the state constitution and in statute law. CUT: TonyMiller13 :13 American Indians – both on and off reservations – are eligible to vote. Sex offenders who are required to register for life with the state are eligible to vote, as long as their parole is completed. An effort to extend the franchise to teenagers ages 14 thru 17 fell flat in the legislature this year after gaining extensive publicity. The deadline to register to vote in California is next Monday, October eighteenth. SOC
