Republican Bill Jones declared the U-S must do a better job of enforcing its immigration laws and said drivers’ licenses for illegal immigrants have the potential to further weaken an already porous U-S border. Cut: Jones1 (:16) “So it’s very important that California not do anything that disrupts the process of making sure Californians are more secure and issues like providing licenses for illegal immigrants or issues that would in fact jeopardize the security of California moves in the wrong direction.” Jones suggests a guest worker program to allow those from other countries to legally obtain jobs here but says border issues and verifiable identification must be addressed first. A recent Field Poll showed Jones trailing his opponent, Democratic incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer by 48-to-32 percent. SOC
