Attorney General Pushing for Bullet Serial Code
California Attorney General Bill Lockyer is pushing for a state law requiring handgun ammunition to carry a serial code.

Lockyer says coding bullets be a good tool for fighting crime because it would allow police to trace the bullets to the buyer. But John Barrett of Badger John’s Huntin’ Stuff, a Sacramento sporting goods store, says stamping bullets with traceable codes is impractical. (laughs) I think it’s pretty ridiculous actually. Once again, it’s a situation of a politician jumping out there and wanting to propose something that they have no idea whether it’s even feasible to produce it. Lockyer’s proposed system would cost ammunition manufacturers about a half-cent for each bullet. He says he’s working with legislators to have the law introduced next year. Steve Milne - KXJZ news.
