After being abandoned by the Oakland Athletics, who moved their single “A” farm team in the California League to Stockton, the former Modesto A’s organization is going to be part of the Colorado Rockies’ farm system. Modesto General Manager Mike Gorrasi talked extensively with five major league teams about becoming part of their system. He settled on the Rockies. GORRASI :10—They’re a very up-and-coming organization. They pride themselves on player development. They’ve had a lot of top prospects at levels below us, which means they’ll probably be playing here in Modesto next year. Gorrasi is hopeful the two-year pact with the National League team turns into a long-term relationship. A spokesman for the Rockies at the home office in Denver says there are some details that have to be worked out before the club will comment on the agreement. Gorrasi says the organization will immediately begin asking Modesto fans to suggest a new name for the team. Bob Hensley KXJZ News.
