Governor Urged to Sign Equal Billing Treatment
Governor Schwarzenegger is being urged to sign a bill that would prevent hospitals from charging uninsured low and middle income patients more than they charge patients who are insured.

Supporters of the bill say it will stop hospitals from charging uninsured patients two or three or four times more than they charge insured patients for the same medical procedure. Legislation to require equal billing treatment is now before Governor Schwarzenegger. Beth Cappell, lobbyist with the Health Access organization, says uninsured patients demand fairness. Health Access reports that only one of forty hospitals it surveyed has fully complied with the voluntary guidelines. SOC
