Secretary of State Under Investigation
Another investigation of Secretary of State Kevin Shelley’s actions is underway. The legislature will look into how he spent federal funds.

The state auditor will examine how Secretary of State Kevin Shelley spent federal funds aimed at increasing voter turn-out in the upcoming election. But Republican Assembly leader Kevin McCarthy says an audit isn’t enough. Cut: Kevin1 (:08) “We’re not having open hearings, we’re not having the public to investigate more of this information. It almost seems that we’re trying to push this under the rug and hide it before an election.” Democratic Assemblywoman Wilma Chan who chairs the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. She says it’s the right start. Cut: Wilma1 (:06) “When we get the reports we’ll be in a better position to know what type of hearings or what type of investigations need to be done.” In a letter to the committee, Shelley said he welcomed the audit and that he’s confident the funds have been spent appropriately. Newspapers have reported the money was spent for Shelley’s self-promotion. He is also under federal and state investigations over campaign contributions. SOC
