Legislature Maybe Called to Special Session
As the state legislature churns toward final recess, there’s talk of a September special session to tie up some loose ends.

Leaders in both the state Senate and the Assembly say they’re on track to end the 2003-2004 legislative session by this weekend. But Democrat Don Perata, elected this week to be the new Senate President Pro Tem, says if the governor wants approval of the latest Indian gaming pacts, he may have to call overtime.
