Central Transit Hub 20 Years Away
A central hub for buses, trains and light rail in Sacramento's downtown railyard isn’t light years away but almost.

For many years, city officials in Sacramento have dreamed of a major transit hub – a first-class station served by bus and rails in downtown’s railyards. But it won’t be in operation for 20 years, if then, say San Francisco consultants in a new report commissioned by the city. Construction won’t start for at least six years … and it would take 14 years to build. And that timeline assumes the city can come up with $150 million needed to alter existing train tracks, deal with pollution, and realign an on-ramp the I-5, to name just a few unfunded requirements. The project does enjoy widespread support, after years of hearings and negotiating.
