A local hospital is laying of staff because it’s getting fewer patients.

Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital has laid off the equivalent of 38 full-time positions to cut costs. That’s 8% of their staff … and it’s rare that a community hospital takes such a drastic measure. The hospital is on track for nearly 20% fewer patients this year than five years ago. Yet the workforce had grown 12% during that time. Most of the layoffs take effect in the next few days. The combination of layoffs and reduction of worker hours should save about $2 million dollars annually.
