Carpool Lane Plans for I-80
Caltrans officials say a new carpool lane on Interstate-80 between Roseville and Sacramento will make the morning rush hour easier for commuters.

The new westbound carpool lane runs from Riverside Boulevard to Longview Drive. Caltrans spokesman Mark Dinger says the five-mile stretch should ease congestion on one of the area’s slowest freeway commutes. We think it’s going to move about 4-thousand people, particularly in the morning, through that area, and that’s 4-thousand vehicles that are going to be out of the other lanes too, so we think it’s going to have an immediate impact on the morning commute. During rush hours, the lane is reserved for vehicles with at least two occupants. Dinger says drivers who get caught violating that rule face hefty fines. Here in Sacramento County, that carpool lane fine is going to cost you about 351 dollars. Dinger says they plan to add more carpool lanes in the Roseville area over the next few years.
