Marianne Russ
Capitol Bureau Chief
Marianne Russ got hooked on public radio during college while
working as a reporter and anchor at WMUB public radio in Oxford,
Ohio. While covering late-night city council meetings, her
interest in politics was born.
After a brief stint at WDTN TV in Dayton, Ohio as a news producer,
she returned to WMUB for several years as a news producer,
reporter, and "All Things Considered" local host. She also
produced and hosted a local talk show called "Sound Health."
While working on her master's degree at Ohio University, Marianne
worked part-time at WOUB public radio and TV in Athens, Ohio as an
anchor and reporter.
A passion for travel and languages led Marianne to Germany in
2003-2004 as a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellow. There she
worked for DeutschlandRadio Berlin, and Deutsche Welle, traveling
throughout Germany and Eastern Europe producing sound-rich
stories. Some of her favorites include a mini-documentary on
the role of graffiti before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall,
and a feature on Hungarian farmers struggling to cope with the new
agricultural standards that came with European Union
membership.
Marianne came to Sacramento in 2004 as a reporter and weekend
anchor for KFBK. She often covered the Capitol beat, and
thoroughly enjoys California's political scene. She is thrilled to
return to public radio at CPR as Capitol Bureau Chief.
She lives in Sacramento with her husband, Richard, and their Golden
Retriever, Fiji. She enjoys travel, running, and
photography.
