El Dorado County officials say a Los Angeles-based company is blanketing the region with fake tax forms.
For a fee, the company promises to cut your property tax bill. They claim they can do that by reducing the value of your home because of the declining real estate market.
Karl Weiland is the Assistant County Assessor.
“None of those fees are necessary. All county assessors’ offices offer those services to the public for free. We’ve also received a request from the District Attorney’s office so apparently they’re looking into whether or not this is in violation of the laws regarding misleading mailers.”
Weiland says his staff is already reappraising properties.
People who don’t agree with the value attached to their property can file an appeal…for free…between July and November.
