Rancho Cordova-based CC Myers has been CalTrans’ contractor of choice for projects that face urgent deadlines. It handled last summer’s Fix I-5 project, which shut down an entire section in downtown Sacramento for days at a time. It also worked the last Labor Day Bay Bridge closure in 2007.
This time, like the last bridge closure, CC Myers will have less than four days to get the job done. Workers will cut off a 300-foot section of the bridge just east of Yerba Buena Island, move it out of the way and slide a new roadway into place. The goal is to create a new detour for the next few years while crews build the new earthquake-safe eastern span. The new bridge is scheduled to open in 2013 -- at a cost of around $5.5 billion.
