Hazel Avenue will be widened from four to six lanes between Highway 50 and Curragh Downs Drive in Fair Oaks.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held this afternoon. Steve White is the project manager.

“The AM and the PM rush are pretty rough out there right now so this project will certainly relieve some of that congestion quite a bit. We’re very happy to see some dirt moving on this one finally.”

County Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan says the construction project will also help the economy.

“It means there will be jobs in a time when that’s necessary and helpful to the community.”

Work should be done by December of 2010.

The project is being paid for with developer fees, money from state and federal agencies and Measure A – a voter-approved sales tax for transportation projects.
