Republican Assemblyman Dan Logue has introduced legislation to repeal the landmark measure known as A.B. 32.  Its goal is to cut greenhouse gas emissions in California 30-percent by 20-20. But Logue says the requirements of the 2006 environmental law will drive more businesses out of the state.  

“California’s being asked to play by different rules than the rest of the country and the rest of the world. We are in a recession right now. 2006 our economy was doing well but AB 32 being implemented right now it couldn’t be at a worse time.”

The measure was shepherded through the legislative process by then Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez and has been touted around the world by Governor Schwarzenegger.  Logue acknowledges that such high profile support makes success unlikely—but he hopes it will foster more discussion on the issue.   A spokeswoman for the Governor says Schwarzenegger strongly believes in the tenets of the law and opposes plans to eliminate it.
