Officials with the Stockton Lightning say the team’s sixteen game season will open on schedule in late March. Spokesman Mike Benton says the Lightning, a development or A-F two league team, is on a solid financial footing because it doesn’t pay the high player’s salaries that the primary league does.
"It really achieves the goal by the A-F two to financially commit itself to operate under the most sound and a sensible economic structure."
The Ligthning averages about four thousand fans a game. Officials hope that attendance increases from AFL fans in northern California who drive to Stockton for a game.
Officials with the Arena Football League hope to resume play in 2010.
