Low-visibilities Monday morning caused slowdowns for commuters heading back to work. Cynthia Palmer is a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

“It can get pretty thick. We’ve seen visibilities primarily less than a quarter of a mile. Typically you see the densest fog along area rivers or near open fields.” 

Palmer says the fog is created by a mix of clear skies, light winds and low-level moisture. 

“We’ve had that perfect combination with high pressure over the region the last few days, so we’re looking at the fog to stick around for most of this week.” 

If you’re driving in the fog…the California Highway Patrol urges you to slow down, put your headlights on and leave a safe distance between your car and the car in front of you.
