**Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Proposition 7 is down more than 20 points. In fact, its support has dropped more than 20 points since the last Field Poll, but it only trails by four points. KXJZ regrets the error.
Last month, Proposition 8 trailed by 17 points. Now, it’s down just five. 49 percent of Californians oppose banning gay marriage; 44 percent favor the measure; and the rest are undecided.
Voters also appear conflicted. For example, two-thirds said they believe that marriage between a man and a woman is a cornerstone of America’s Judeo-Christian heritage. But nearly as many said Prop 8 would deny one class of citizens the right to enjoy the dignity and responsibility of marriage.
The Field Poll also looked at three other measures. Prop 2, the farm animal confinement question, has a healthy 30 point lead. Prop 7, on renewable energy generation, was up big but now is down four points. And the redistricting measure, Prop 11, leads 45 percent to 30 percent – with a full quarter of California voters undecided.
