Once the devastating Angora fire was contained, Tahoe Basin residents started questioning why the blaze caused so much damage. State Fire Marshall Kate Dargan says bureaucracy was target number one. 

Dargan: “There was certainly a perception by the public that there was an overregulated environment in Tahoe.”

Two agencies received much of the blame: the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, or TRPA, which oversees local development … and the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, charged with keeping Lake Tahoe clean.  But Dargan says there’s been “dramatic improvement” over the last year, with agencies and individuals communicating better. 

KXJZ’s Ben Adler caught up with TRPA spokesperson Julie Regan in South Lake Tahoe to find out what’s changed.
