Across California, people will be choosing their U.S. Representatives – all House districts are up. And they’ll be voting for state legislative races, too. Candidates are running in all 80 Assembly districts – and in half of the Senate districts – that’s 20 races. There are only two statewide measures on the ballot this time. They’re both constitutional amendments aimed at changing the process of eminent domain in the state – that’s the right of the government to take private property. There’s a change from February’s election for decline-to-state voters – often called non-partisan voters. They’re allowed to vote a Democratic, Republican or American Independent ballot if they choose, In February, the GOP ballot was off-limits for them. Secretary of State Debra Bowen says she expects things to run smoothly.
