Jim Matthews is a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. He says the hot weather can be a health hazard.

"The heat impacts the elderly, small children and the infirmed a lot more than healthy people so make sure those people have comfort."

…but he says be careful if you decide to cool off by taking a dip in the river.

"The river water is extremely cold this time of year and in most cases we have some very swift currents. If you swim, please use a life jacket as hypothermia can set in in a matter of seconds."

Matthews says a strong ridge of high-pressure over the California-Oregon border is causing the unseasonably warm weather. He says we’ll get some cooler temperatures by early next week as the system makes its way west.
