Mark DiCamillo is Director of the Poll. He says voters support the compromise worked out between Governor Schwarzenegger and Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez by nearly a three to one margin. Di Camillo says the support for the plan – which mandates all Californians have insurance -- was widespread:
“There really isn't any strong opposition in any one segment of voters. It’s embraced by majorities across most of the major subgroups in California.”
DiCamillo says that includes Republicans, Democrats and non-partisan voters.
The poll also found that more than 60 percent of voters favor increasing the cigarette tax by two dollars a pack to help pay for the health care plan.
The Field Poll of 12-hundred registered voters was conducted last week.
