More than 50 short videos cover everything from controlling your car when you’ve got a flat tire to changing lanes.

Video: To change lanes safely put your turn indicator on first….

Jan Mendoza with the California Department of Motor Vehicles says the videos are a way to remake the agency’s image as hipper and less bureaucratic.

"Teenagers especially love YouTube."

She says California’s Department of Motor Vehicles has more videos on the site than any other state agency in the country. The videos originally appeared in a DVD the agency released a few years back. What’s the most popular video? “Kyle’s Driving Test.”

"Kyle takes his driving test for the first time and he does not pass it."

Video: Kyle: I didn’t pass? Examiner: There are just some things you need to work on.

Mendoza: "So that kind of gives the teens a little bit of an idea what to expect."

…and Mendoza says they’re getting a huge response. The DMV channel at YouTube has been viewed more than 14,000 times.
