Sierra College’s newest degree program is also its only program offered completely online. The format makes sense. The first students entering the program will graduate with a virtual office professional degree or certificate.

The program targets a growing industry of office services offered by workers called “virtual office professionals.” These workers contract with clients to handle paperwork, bookkeeping or data entry, often working from home and getting their assignments online.

Sierra’s new program requires 27 units, roughly double what similar programs at other schools require.

A committee for the California Community Colleges is seeking grant money to expand the program to other schools. It will use Sierra College’s program as a model.
