Department officials say much of the money will be used to develop partnerships with other Sacramento area police agencies.

"…to kind of broaden our net so to speak."

Lieutenant Bob Lozito leads the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. He says he doesn’t want to spend too much of the money on hiring new people.

"…instead what we intend to do is provide training, equipment and partnership opportunities with that money, then the agency themselves will have to provide personnel."

A lot of that training will help forensics experts learn the most up-to-date techniques for extracting digital evidence from computers that contain child pornography.

Lozito says the new funds will also help officers conduct undercover operations and educate parents and kids on how to avoid predators on the internet.
