Sacramento has good people, strong college enrollment and household income. But we’re lacking when it comes to job growth, unemployment rate and venture capital investment.

This is according to the 2007 Prosperity Index, which ranks 11 communities plus the United States in specific categories.

The study, released by the Sacramento Regional Research Institute, looks at numerous indicators, including air quality, job growth, graduation rate and crime rate.  Both last year and this year, Sacramento has ranked No. 9.

The only communities that fall below us are Los Angeles, the United States as a whole, and Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Austin, Texas, took the top place, followed by Salt Lake City.
