Sacramento Habitat for Humanity paid minimal rent during the past five years for its space just north of downtown. Now it’s moving into Depot Park, and the rent will be higher. But the organization now has annual revenues of $700,000 it didn’t have five years ago … from its store selling donated building materials for a discount. Called ReStore, it also diverts millions of pounds of materials from the landfill. The non-profit homebuilder also wants to build its own development of 20 to 40 houses to help meet Sacramento County’s needs for affordable housing.
