High Schools bands, community organizations, and peace activists were among the hundreds who marched.  They carried their message of hope from the Oak Park Community Center to the convention center.  Sacramentan Richard Reynolds was there with his son.  He says King’s message still resonates:

“I mean, I remember what he stood for.  All creeds, all races, together, peace, love, it’s a beautiful day.”

Sacramento city councilwoman Lauren Hammond was thrilled people of all races took part.  But she says the struggle for justice continues:

 “when you look at how many people are homeless, when you see how people fight about undocumented immigrants and they’re not getting paid what they’re worth – so it’s not over, and we should keep marching.”

Hundreds all over the region also spent the day volunteering – building homes, cleaning up, landscaping or painting.
