If you have a fireplace, wood stove or backyard fire pit – they say please don’t use them. Christina Ragsdale with the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District says particulate matter pollution is high because we’ve got a high pressure system over the area and no wind.

"A lot of the winter time Spare the Air, like the summer, is weather driven and we have a fairly strong inversion predicted and this is likely to aggravate the air quality conditions but it should improve the following day."

Breathing particulate matter can cause coughing and aggravate asthma and emphysema. Tuesday's Air Quality Index is predicted to be 132 which is “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
