Republican Assemblywoman Mimi Walters is the honorary state chair of the Yes on 90 Campaign.  She says the measure would reform eminent domain in California…preventing the government from taking homes or businesses and turning the land over for private economic development:

“It protects the little guy from big government – so many times one person cannot stand up to city hall and prop 90 is going to be able to protect that person.”

Tom Adams opposes the measure.  He says 90 goes too far.  He cites one provision that would force government to reimburse landowners when their property values decline because of a zoning or environmental rule change.  And he says it would restrict future local planning – allowing for harmful development:

“The property values in neighborhoods are going to plummet by people who want to put in billboards, open bars or nightclubs or machine shops in residential areas.”

Adams points out the 90 campaign is being funded largely by a New York real estate mogul.  Walters says she welcomes money from anyone passionate about private property rights.
