The Governor is forming a “maritime security council,” whose job is to develop a statewide security strategy to help ports handle a potential attack or natural disaster.  Schwarzenegger made the announcement in San Diego:

“This council will bring together local, state and federal agencies together with labor and management to help identify potential threats, improve security measures and communications, and conduct training exercises.”

The council will include representatives from Homeland Security, the Coast Guard, and the Navy.  The Governor’s office says it will not cost the state any additional money.  President Bush is also expected to sign a bill that will free up 400 million dollars a year for five years for port security nationwide.
