In Sacramento, Governor Schwarzenegger stood with taxpayer advocacy groups, with a popular Republican message.

 “I’ve said it before and I will say it again. I will not raise taxes on the people of California…”
 
Meanwhile, State Treasurer and Democratic challenger Phil Angelides is proposing tax hikes on upper income earners but has also proposed a tax cut— that includes increasing the state’s dependent credit by 200-dollars per child.   Despite his own lowered standing in the polls, Angelides said in Sacramento this week that Democratic voters will rally behind their party ideology. 

 “We believe very strongly that we will be a better and stronger California if we help more families climb the ladder of opportunity, not just lavish more on those who have the most.” 

Angelides’ proposals to raise taxes have been targeted by the Schwarzenegger campaign, while Angelides has portrayed his opponent as a protector of big business, and in step with President Bush’s policies.
