Floyd Landis who lives near San Diego remains 30 seconds behind the leader. Sacramento-based sports journalist James Raia is in France covering the race. He says the big shakeout is expected Saturday in the final individual time trial.

"Despite Floyd collapsing a couple of days ago on his bike, he came back yesterday to win a very, very dramatic stage, put himself back into the race and tomorrow could become the third American to win the Tour de France."

The other two recent American champions were Lance Armstrong and Greg Lemond. Cycling’s premier race ends Sunday in Paris.
