It’s already been released that more money for schools and for some children’s health care programs will be in the revised budget. Governor Schwarzenegger says he’s urging restraint with the multi-billion dollar windfall:
“Although our strong economy has produced billions of dollars in extra revenues, we must continue to build for the future by using these extra revenues as one-time revenues and not as ongoing revenues and pay down our debt.”
Democratic Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez says it’s possible to be fiscally responsible while funding those who need help most:
“Yes we should have a reserve but we’ve got to adequately fund social programs, particularly those that benefit senior citizens and the poor.”
The Governor says the windfall is a sign that his policies – including no new taxes – are working.
