The move comes on the heels of the latest in a series of audits finding irregularities and a lack of accountability in the way UC compensates some staff.   Democrat and Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero, and Republican Senator Abel Maldonado are both calling for Dynes to step down immediately. 

Romero says after multiple audits and committee hearings into the 6-month compensation scandal, she’s come to one conclusion:

 “The public trust has been damaged and the first step to restoring that trust is acting and replacing the leadership that broke it.”

Separately, Republican Senator Jeff Denham is calling for Dynes to be fired – also because of recent audits which showed a lack of transparency in perks such as housing allowances given to UC executives. 

In a statement, President Dynes did not address the call for his resignation or removal – but said he’s “taken action to begin rectifying the university’s compensation problems.”
