The jury found 23-year old Hamid Hayat guilty of providing material support to terrorists by attending a training camp in Pakistan and lying to the F-B-I about it.  Hayat was impassive as the guilty verdicts were read in federal court – but his attorney Wazhma Mojaddidi was emotional outside the courthouse.  

“I believe that they are wrong in their decision.  Hamid Hayat never attended a terrorist training camp.  This fight is definitely not over.  There will be a motion for a new trial.”

U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott says the verdicts make it clear law enforcement can prevent terrorism by prosecuting those planning violence against U.S. citizens.  Hamid Hayat faces up to 39 years in prison.  His father, Umer, was charged with lying about his son’s attendance at the camp…but that case was declared a mistrial after the jurors could not agree on a verdict.
