Flood management officials say they’re concerned this latest, warm storm system will create a lot of snow melt in waterways that are already swollen from several weeks of wet weather.

"We expect additional runoff into the reservoirs especially in the San Joaquin River area."

Spokesman Michael Miller says the alert is a precautionary measure.

"We are releasing flows out of the reservoirs to keep flood waters from inundating at a later date."

National Weather Service meteorologist Kathy Hoxsie says the wet weather will stay with us for a while.

"We’re looking at a break Wednesday afternoon and hopefully most of Thursday before the next system comes in on Friday."

Forecasters say the wet weather will be with us through mid-April as a stubborn jet stream starts moving into its more southerly flowing springtime position.
