Plans are underway to change the nearly 40 year old building into an open-air shopping center. Mall spokesman Rick Reed says they’re even changing the name.
"Florin Towne Center will actually feature a wonderful shopping promenade, food courts and other amenities including Sears and Wal-Mart."
But some small business owners are complaining that they’re being forced out by the change.
"They want to kill the small business in my opinion."
Mohamamd Sadiq, who owns Games Outlet in the mall, is mad that small shops like his are being pushed out in favor of retail giant Wal-Mart.
"To tell you the truth nobody wants to leave and everybody wanted to stay but they were just waiting to see if somebody was going to sign the long term lease for the big box store."
Sadiq is moving his store to the Country Club Plaza mall. Meantime, the renovated Florin Town Center is expected to be completed in time for Christmas of 2007.
