Governor Will Further Review Plan for Board and Commission Eliminations
Praise and reaction came quickly Thursday for the Governor’s decision to withdraw his high-visibility plans to eliminate several boards and commissions.

In a one-paragraph letter to the Chairman of the Little Hoover Commission, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said he believed his plan to eliminate more than eighty boards and commissions would benefit from further review. State Senator Liz Figueroa serves on the Commission that recently conducted public hearings on the proposal. She says it would have slammed the door on the public’s role in the process and praised the Governor’s move Cut: Liz4 (:09) “I think the Governor realized… saw the writing on the wall, that there was a lot of confusion, and then he responded to it.” Nurses and union organizations—among the Governor’s most vocal critics-- declared victory over the decision. The two groups had staged protests over proposals to get rid of the Board of Registered Nursing and the Workers Compensation Appeals Board, among others.
