Grammy Nominee: Mary Youngblood
The Grammy Awards are this Sunday in Los Angeles and a local flutist is nominated for Best Native American Recording. If Fair Oaks resident Mary Youngblood wins, it’ll be her second Grammy.

The first thing you notice when you step into Youngblood’s music room is a wall covered with about a hundred rare, hand-carved flutes of various sizes, colors and designs.
They’re like my children, I feel so protective of them and love to be around them. This is a triple chambered flute that’s a prototype from a Cherokee flute maker who died a few years ago. His name’s Hawk Little John. He only made three of these in the whole world before he passed away. Music….
