Lack of Transparency When it comes to
transparency on government spending, California gets a D+,
according to a new study by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group. We'll talk
about the state's deficencies in providing public online access to
spending data with Pedro Morillas, the Consumer Advocate for the
California Public
Interest Research Group (CALPIRG).
Elk Grove Schools School districts across
California are preparing to make massive cuts yet again, including
doing away with school sports and extracurricular activities, as
the state struggles to close a huge budget gap. We'll talk about it
with Elk Grove Superintendent Steven Ladd about what's happening in the Elk Grove
Unified School District.
Understanding the Teen Brain A UC Davis
researcher is giving a lecture today on understanding the emotional
teenage brain. We'll talk with Dr. Amanda Guyer about her work and what she's
learned.

Shakespeare Behind Bars An innovative program
in Kentucky and Michigan uses Shakespeare to connect with people in
jail. Curt Tofteland founded Shakespeare Behind Bars as a way to help
inmates develop life skills so they could successfully reintergrate
into society. A documentary about the program will screen at the Unversity of the
Pacific in Stockton tomorrow. We'll talk with Tofteland about
his work.
"Shakespeare Behind Bars" will screen at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 23rd in the
Janet Leigh Theatre, University of the Pacific, Stockton. A Q&A
session with Curt Tofteland will follow the screening.
No Day Without Noise A local man is trying to
record a song or audio work each and every day. Most of the pieces
by Zacharias Flynn are improvised or thought up
moments before he hits record, while other are collages of audio
samples gathered that day. We'll talk with Flynn about his project
No Day
Without Noise and why he's doing it.
